Kerry Update and the last 3 weeks for MRT...

Apologies for the delay in updating this blog. The last 3 weeks brought many ups and downs to the Mercury Rising Team. For those who have been following the story of Kerry, please see Sara's blog for an update. This sad news has effected many in our group and the triathlon community in Calgary as a whole.

In terms of racing, last weekend Megan Jones WON HER AGE GROUP at Invermere Olympic distance having just bounced back from a cold. Carlos Vilchez has had 2 great race weekends back to back, placing 11th overall at a sprint race in Ontario at the end of a big week, then blew the doors off his goal of going 3h30 at Muskoka Long Course today with a 3h23.

Many of us have just returned from PHAT CAMP in Penticton. What an awesome week we had! The athletes were all substantially fitter than in previous years. Honestly, it was hard not to be proud of their efforts. What a great group. Here are a few shots...

On the 2nd day of the camp, we did the SUPER PHAT SUPER SPRINT race which included a 200m swim, 9k bike and 1200m run, three times through.

Take your marks...

Thursday we hit the track for 8x 1k.

The shoes waiting in "t2" after a quick loop of the IMC course...

And we're done...

Kerry missing-please read

Triathlete and Mercury Rising team member Kerry Enick has been missing since Wednesday. Kerry is 50 years old, 5'9", 180lbs and lives in Calgary, Alberta. His wife Sharon and family in Saskatchewan and Ontario are both extremely worried and exploring all available avenues to help discover his whereabouts.

I have been coaching Kerry for almost 3 years and recently he has not been himself. If you see him he may seem sleepy or confused. If you are reading this and have seen Kerry since Wednesday, please call me immediately on 250.896.1026.

Thank you for reading.

PBs aplenty!

Luke Gillmer tops the age group podium at Vancouver Half Iron.

I feel like a broken record, but each weekend seems to bring more PB's and great results for the Mercury crew.

First off, Mercury Coach and athlete Luke Gillmer was the first age grouper and 5th overall at the Vancouver Half Iron event. Coach Clint was very pleased with his performance, and a huge PB!

At the Great White North Half Iron in Alberta, Leanne Sherman and Lorraine Churchill both chopped an HOUR off their previous best times, finishing in 5:47 and 5:15, respectively. Kendall Pritchard improved by over 30mins for a time of 5:24, and Jenna Berthelot also PBed (despite an injury and forced run/walk)! And last but not least, another personal best- Tisha breaks six hours!!

In Canmore, Megan Jones finished 3rd in her age group at the tough but picturesque Olympic distance triathlon. Claire Matheson also did her first half iron in 5 years in Ontario. She too PBed overtaking 150 people during the run!

Lastly, apologies to Micheal Vanderhyde who took 4th in his age group at IM Coeur D'Alene last weekend. Micheal qualified for the World Champs in Hawaii at the Honu 70.3 this year, so we look forward to watching him race on the Big Island!
